Fred e Barney estão procurando por seus filhos, Pebbles e Bam-Bam que se perderam. Quando finalmente os encontram, uma erupção vulcânica bloqueia o caminho e, assim, começam a dar a volta na montanha para descobrir por que isso aconteceu e, é claro, para salvar seus filhos. The Surprise at Dinosaur Peak é o segundo jogo licenciado por Flintstones para o NES. Você pode jogar com dois personagens. Ao pressionar o botão Selecionar, você pode mudar de Fred para Barney e vice-versa. Cada personagem possui habilidades únicas necessárias para completar certas partes de cada estágio. Por exemplo, Fred pode agarrar as bordas de um telhado ou uma colina e subir enquanto Barney pode pendurar em cordas e trepadeiras.
