O diabólico Dark Guld recuperou-se de sua última derrota e voltou ainda mais determinado a fazer da Terra o palco de sua destruição. Ele veio acompanhado de um clã de perversas criaturas e roubou o Golden Axe, machado de ouro símbolo da paz e prosperidade. De novo, nossos bravos guerreiros vão se colocar no caminho dos malfeitores. Eles são: Ax-Battler, o bárbaro; Tyris-Flare, a feroz amazona; e Gilius Thunderhead, o destemido anão. Por mais dura que seja a batalha, por mais longa que seja a jornada, nada vai impedi-los. O Golden Axe deve voltar para seu devido lugar. E estes terríveis inimigos da humanidade também! Ajude-os nesta árdua missão!
